- its an umbrella term under which there are many ideologies.
- ex: communism, social democracy, democratic socialism

A
- suspicious to outright opposed to capitalism.
- there is a belief that greater human happiness can be achieved via economic planning of the economy by gout.

Explain the Common Ownership aspect of socialism:
A
- productive property, such as factories, as well as, communications and transportation networks should be controlled or owned by the state.
- Why? because the profits go to gout. and thus, by extension, the people (as a whole) rather than to a few inds. as they would under unregulated capitalism.

A
- much can be done to address social and economic inequalities in society.

A
- Inds. are born selfless but are corrupted by flawed institutions (like unregulated capitalism) once characteristics 1-3 have been implemented, people will revert to being selfless.
