Posterior thigh & Popliteal fossa Flashcards

1
Q

What is the fascia lata? What does it form?

A
  • Layer of deep fascia surrounding the thigh muscles
  • Forms 3 intermuscular septa that attach to the linea aspera dividing the thigh muscles into 3 compartments
  • Anterior extensor, posterior flexor and medial adductor compartments

Q

What does the sciatic nerve divide into in the posterior thigh? Locate these

A
  • Common fibula (peroneal) nerve- deviates laterally
  • Tibial nerve- continues in the midline
  • Both enter the popliteal fossa
