  • illegal deployment of russian troops in crimea violates territorial integrity , showing russia doesnt recognise sovreignty of ukraine and that it doesnt have territorial integrity
  • extremely significant
  • violates article 2.4, internationally recognising sovreignty
  • 88 people killed in 48 hours
  • still occouring = wars today

  • due to uk leaving the eu, they got control over territorial waters, france mot respecting jerseys territorial integrity, still trying to fish in the area, uk having to set up navy ships in the area to deter france fishing boats
  • not significant
  • the uk doesnt rely on fish trade
  • no deaths
  • however france threatening to cut of electricity to jersey

  • scotish government voted to stay in the uk, hovever vote was close at 55% and 45% due scotland wanting to be a part of the eu
  • creates challeneges to uk sovreignty as they wont have control over Scotland

  • less resources eg: north sea oli = economic issues

1880s scramble for africa, 14 europian countries claimed possesson of different parts of africa
- extremely rich in natural resources
- they grouped seperate tribes together, gave one control, so they would fight eachother and not the countries that conolised them

  • extremely sigificant
  • leads to separatism eg: south sudan black christians vs islamic arabics
  • still occouring ( civil war )
  • many deaths have occoured
  • extremely large geographical area

tunnel found between usa and mexico, challenges sovreignty as government not aware, external territorial integrity not respected

  • us cannot moniter weapons, could be used against them
  • drugs sold = illegal money, affecting the economy
  • weapons and drugs = deaths
  • no one arrested for the tunnels

POLITICAL DOMINANCE OF ETHNIC GROUPS

eg; kurds, south sudan, Basque ( eta terrosist group)

  • challanges to territorial integrity of a state come from ethnic groupa with a strong identity wanting independance
  • internal conflict between ethnic groups challeneg sovreignty as they can no longer protect all cilizens therefore not meeting un requirements.

TNC’s challenge sovreigty

  • tncs = large coorperate entreprises which operate in more then once country eg: nike operating in 42 countries
  • they violate human rights, stopping sovreign obligation ( eg: poor working conditions )
  • land grabbing denying a country land whihc people need to survive eg: daewoo trying to leace half of madagascars arible farming land, keaving subsistance farmers loosing their livelyhood and food insecurity worsening
  • reliant lidcs, doing what tnc’s want = meaning government dont have total authority = loosing sovreignty

  • un challeneges sovreignty =

-article 42= militarry action, eg: lybia uprising due to arab spring, the government started shooting peaceful protestors so the un stepped in and created a no fly zone so attacks coulding occour and if there was planes the un = shoot down ( taking sovreignty of air space )

  • article 41 = provision of technology and oil and gas ( economic sanctions ) ,challenges sovreignty
  • un supports sovreigty =
  • eg: peacekeeping missions, build and strengthen government
  • punish others who take sovreignty eg: russia for annexing crimea
  • each country has a seat at general assembly

  • border countries (EEA) eg: norway have to pay the fees, and have free movement but dont vote
  • eu countries have a lack of control of borders eg: ( schengen, no visas ) and dublin agreement ( first country assylum seekers step on have to be proceesed there)
  • EURO zone, dotn set their own interest rates
  • lack of coltrol of territorial waters eg: fishing areas

strengthen sovreignty

  • ability to adess transnational issues eg: pollution and crime
  • access to large european market and protection of industry by common tariff
