What is Mendel’s Law of Segregation?
The two alleles for each trait separate during gamete formation.
What does ‘alleles’ refer to in Mendel’s Law?
Different versions of a gene that determine specific traits.
What is a gamete?
A reproductive cell that carries one allele for each trait.
What is the result of the Law of Segregation in offspring?
Offspring receive one allele from each parent.
What is the Law of Independent Assortment?
The Law of Independent Assortment states that alleles of different genes assort independently of one another during gamete formation.
Example: Inheriting yellow seed color does not determine purple flower color.
What is the Law of Dominance?
The Law of Dominance states that in a cross between two organisms, one trait may mask the presence of another trait.
Example: Tall (TT) and dwarf (tt) plants produce offspring that are all tall (Tt).
