What is a LAAGER and how does it sum up Afrikaners mentality.
-LAAGER=circle of covered wagons that are used as an armed camp
-see themselves as the victims and rightful owners of South Africa and that they have enemies everywhere
Where does Afrikaner racism stem from
-Chrisitan ideals= told them their mission in Arica was to protect white civilisation
-Slavery= Boers used slave labour to become essentially an overseer who shunned the manual work onto the slaves

1834 Britian ordered the abolition of slavery threating Boers economy an identity
What was the great trek and who were the voertrekkers
the great trek was when two thousand Boers went into the wilderness to leave British rule.
-Voertrekkers were the Boers who went on the great trek.
How did the historical myth of the battle of blood river show Afrikaner mentality
-believed they were superior to the Zulus and won as God was on their side due to their belief of them having a covenant with God. made them think South Africa was their god given right
Why did the Boers hate the Bristish after the anglo-boer war
-they burnt their farms
-put them into concentration camps
How did the Great depression lead to poor Afrikaners
-lead to the price of gold falling so owners hired more black Africans into higher up jobs as they were able to pay them less (Black peril)
