1
Q

How does metallic bonding form

A

Sea of Delocalised outer electron (positive metal ions)
Strong electrostatic forces of attractions
High melting and boiling points
Conduct heat and electricity as the delocalised electrons can move and carry charge

2
Q

Why are metals malleable

A

Because the layers of atoms are able to slide over each other

Q

What is an alloy and why are they so hard

A

Mixture of metals
Different atom sizes distort the layers so they are unable to slide over eachother

Q

What is solubility described as

A

Maximum amount of a substance that will dissolve in a given amount of solvent at a certain temperature
Often increased by temperature

Q

How would you investigate the solubility of ammonium chloride

A

Pour 200 cm cubed of deionised water into a 250cm cubed beaker
Place the beaker in a water bath set to specific temperature
Add a mass of ammonium chloride and stir until it dissolves
Continue to add until no more dissolves, indicating saturation
Repeat for different temperatures
Record the change in mass
Repeats and mean average
