Knowledge of body strengths and limits
Knowing the strength and ability of yourself and your students will allow the following from occurring
- plies with stress in the knees
- unsupported rolls of the neck
- ballistic stretching
- situps with straight legs
Stamina
Ensure dancers fitness level can meet their performance
Expectations must be adjusted when returning from break or injury and a dancer needs exercise, nutrition and sleep.
Flexibility
Forcing a dancers joints beyond capability will lead to injury. If a dancer is considerably flexible, they must work on their strength to protect their joints
Body weight
An overweight body puts extra stress on the joints.
Underweight would have poor energy reserves and are less able to heal injury or prevent infection.
Poor training habits
- Not warming up or warming down (50-60% of maximum level)
- unsafe lifting
- other factors
Safe lifting
Ensuring adequate strength and stability.
We need correct alignment
Hold load as close to the body as possible
Bend knees to lift
Don’t roll in
Switch on muscles
Other factors
Dance floors
Environment (21 degrees)
Clothing (needs to be breathable)
Nutrition (stamina, strength, healing and concentration)
