What is a process?

A

A linked set of tasks performed by a business in response to a business event. The business process receives, manipulates and transfers information or physical items, in order to produce an output of value to a customer.

Why model processes

A

Part of business architecture (not a project-based activity)
Provides documentation so we know what we should be doing
Makes future change more agile and secure and is often necessary for certification (ISO etc.)
Process modelling is part of problem-solving: Aids communication and understanding between stakeholders and helps identify and solve problems stakeholders and helps (project-based activity)
