Q

templates

A
  • shapes that can be drawn or cut around to produce a specific shape
  • using a template ensures all designs are identical
  • quicker than drawing a design to scale every time as reusable
  • need to be strong and hardwearing so they can be repetitively used

jigs

A
  • used to guide tools, or makes sure the workpiece is positioned in the right place for machining
  • come in different shapes and sizes made specifically for a particular job
  • improve accuracy
  • speed up process and simplify making process
  • e.g drilling jigs ensure holes are drilled in the same place
