prognosis Flashcards
(26 cards)
SCLC
sensative to radiation/chemo if localized, but most pts prsent w mets
ALI-DAD
Progresses rapidly with most deaths occurring in 12 mos
malig mesotheiolma
50% 1 yr mortality, few survive > 2 yrs.
Nonspecific Interstitial Pneumonia (NSIP)
good
bronchiectasis
good d/t antbs and PT
Lymphangioleiomyomatosis
slow progression over decades
emphysema
Development of cor pulmonale is a poor prognostic factor
silicosis: pneumocosis
continues to worsen even if remove exposure, increased TB, lung CA
Extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma
o Fatal if spread to cranial vault or necrosis with infection and sepsis.
o Relapse and recurrences remain common and is assoc with a poor outcome.
sarcoidosis
Most recover with minimal residual s/s +/- steroids.
20% with permanent lung or ocular dysfunction.
15% succumb to pulmonary fibrosis and cor pulmonale
adenocarcinoma
prolonged if EGFR; bad if KRAS
ATP- binding cassette protein member 3 (ABCA3) - surfactant protein issue
death in 1st few mos
idiopathic pulm fibrosis
die 3 yrs after dx
Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma
o Locally aggressive + intracranial extension = 20% recurrence.
o 9% of cases are fatal d/t hemorrhage or intracranial extension
ARDS
o Most pts will recover, but many of them can still have physical and cognitive impairment.
o In severe cases, there can be scarring from the interstitial fibrosis that results in chronic pul dz
squamous cell carcinoma of larynx
depends on level atypia at first dx
Pulmonary Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis
resolve w smoking cessation or aquire BRAF –> need transplant
nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Non-keratinizing: 70-90%.
Keratinizing: 20%.
viral pneumonia
mild and resolve spontaneously.
asbestosis: pneumocosis
increased risk lung CA –> then worse prognosis
infectious rhinitis
clears 1 w
• Cryptogenic Organizing Pneumonia (COP)
o AKA: (bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP)
o Pts may recover spontaneously, most require 6 months of steroids.
Surfactant protein B mutation
death in 1st 3-6 mos
NUT Midline Carcinoma
resistant to therapy: under 1 y
