Protein Synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
Wghat are the 3 steps of transcription?
A
Initiation - RNA polymerase is direced to start site of transcription on DNA, binds to sigma factor which is boun to Pribnow box on DNA
Elongation - Reading of DNA sequence on template and synthesis of mRNA
Termination - Reaching transcriptional termination site, mRNA synthesis finishes
2
Q
What a stop sequence area look like?
A
It’s a GC rich area that causes the RNA transcript to form a hairpin loop
3
Q
What is capping?
A
Formation of methylguanosine cap at 5’ end, GTP reacts with 5’ RNA end
4
Q
What is polyadenylation?
A
Adds adenosine residues to end of mRNA
