  1. Immune mediated
  2. 1 parent - 25% chance
    2 parents - 65% chance
  3. Starts at any age group

c/f of psoriasis

A
  1. Red patch with silvery scales
  2. KOEBNER Phenomenon - rash on minor trauma
  3. Extensor surface of elbow/knee
  4. Not itchy normally
  5. Painful arthropathy can be +
  6. Pin point bleed below scales - AUSPITZ sign
  7. Nail - pitting, lifting (onycholysis), hyperkeratosis.
    DD- Fungal infection of nails
    Dxt - Nail clippings CULTURE

Factors triggering psoriasis

A
  1. Infections - strep
  2. Trauma/stress
  3. Sunburn
  4. Puberty/menopause
  5. HCQ, lithium, OCP, B-blockers, NSAIDs

*Mx of psoriasis

A

Clinical dxt, biopsy for confirmation
Rx:
1. Tar preparations - not used nowadays
2. Steroids topical - main
3. Calcipotriol (vit D derivative)
4. Sorbelene with 10% glycerine

Chronic plaque:
1. Sterois cream - mod to high potent 2-6wks
If not enough
2. Calcipotriol + betamethasone (potent steroid)

Face/Scalp psoriasis:
Steroid lotion .. coal tar shampoo for maintanence

Elbow/axilla fold:
Prednisolone cream

Nail psoriasis
Calcipotriol + potent steroid

UVB therapy, methortrexate

Dithranol 1% + Salicylic acid 1% for 30mins on plaques
