Eyenseck’s personality intervention (EPI) states that high levels of extroversion, neuroticism and psychoticism leads to criminal behaviour
Extraverts
-Seek risky behaviour and excitement and stimulation
-Cannot condition easily and don’t learn from mistakes
-Caused by an under active nervous system
Neuroticism
-jumpy and over reactive to situations, generally unstable
-caused by an over reactive sympathetic nervous system
Psychoticism
-Increases levels of aggression
-Caused by high levels of testosterone e
The role of socialisation
-Criminal behaviour is developmentally immature and selfish, concerned with immediate gratification which stems from socialisation when children are taught delayed gratification and social orientation
-People with high E and N scores are difficult to condition and tend not to learn to respond to antisocial impulses with anxiety, instead acting antisocially themselves
