= person with a phobia may panic in response to phobia
AVOIDANCE
= going through a lot of effort to prevent coming into contact with phobia
ENDURANCE
= chooses to remain in the presence of phobia

ANXIETY
= unpleasant state of high arousal, prevents a person relaxing
FEAR
= immediate and unpleasant response we experience when we encounter / think of phobia
EMOTIONAL RESPONSE IS UNREASONABLE
= fear is much greater than is ‘normal’ and disproportionate to any threat

SELECTIVE ATTENTION TO THE PHOBIA
= hard to look away from it
= keeping attention on something really dangerous, gives us best chance of reacting quickly to threat
IRRATIONAL BELIEFS
= unfounded thoughts in reality to phobia
= increase pressure on person to perform well
COGNITVE DISTORTIONS
= perceptions may be inaccurate and unrealistic
