Lung Cancer
A
Path: Smoking, Toxic exposure
Pt: Weight loss, hemoptysis, dyspnea, Pleural effusion (tap effusion first)
Dx: 1st CXR Then CT Scan Best is biopsy - Percutaneous if peripheral - Endoscopic ultrasound if proximal - VATS if in the middle - Lobectomy ok too
Tx: Diagnose, Stage
PFTs (can they tolerate surgery?)
Surgery v Chemo
F/u: Annual low-dose CT scan….cancer screen
- Smoker within 15 years
- 55-80 years old
- greater than 30 pack year history

Dx: Bronch/EUS
Tx: Chemo

Pt: peripheral mass
pleural plaques
Dx: Percutaneous Biopsy
Tx: Chemo/Rads

Path: Serotonin
Pt: Wheezing, Flushing, Diarrhea
Dx: 5-HIAA in the urine
Tx: Resection
