Pure Tone Testing Flashcards

(26 cards)

1
Q

What is the aim of pure tone testing?

A

To determine hearing sensitivity across a number of different frequencies. Compare the individual person’s responses to the norms for typically hearing people.

Q

T or F: Pure tone testing is a direct measure of hearing

A

false - we are measuring the persons response to acoustic signals and assuming this is a measure of hearing

12
Q

How was audiometric zero for bone conduction determined?

A

An artificial mastoid was used and vibrator output was related to normal threshold of hearing at each freq.

Bone Conduction Unmasked Left ear

20
Q

T or F: It is okay to write both the left and right ear on an audiogram in blue

21
Q

T or F: It is okay to write both the left and right ear on an audiogram in red

22
Q

On an audiogram for someone with normal hearing both the left and right ear will be equal or better (above) _________ or ________ for children

A

25dB HL

15 dB HL

23
Q

When preparing to test clients hearing it is important to think about instructions, patient response, headphone placement, bone oscillator placement and your own skill with the equipment.

24
Q

List the order for an air conduction hearing test:

A

Begin with 1000Hz
Test each octave in ascending order (up to 8000Hz)
Retest 1000Hz
Test each octave in descending order (down to 250Hz)

25
When do you need to test interoctave frequencies?
If there is an equal or greater than 20 dB difference between to octaves.
26
How long do you present the tones? Why?
1-2 sec - 2 seconds is likely too long - if they don't hear it they won't - But not less than 500 ms - might be too fast to process
