A
  • topical analgesic or local anisthetic effect on the mucosa of the urinary tract
  • used for UT irritation such as burning on urination and urinary frequency
  • only indicated for short term use (need to find the underlying frequency)

Acyclovir

  • selectively taken up by herpes simplex virus
  • used in prophylaxis and treatment of genital herpes; also used to treat varicella (chicken pox) in children
  • poorly absorbed but absorbed enough for therapeutic levels

nausea, vomiting, HA, diarrhea, dizziness, phlebitis at injection site, acute renal failure with rapid injection
