(a) What is required of each responsible person with regard to sewage and septic tank systems and waste disposal sites?
(a) That any such sites are operated, located & maintained in a manner that does not pollute underground workings.
What do the Regulations require with regard to:

(b) - Not allowed to accumulate underground, must be removed to surface at regular intervals.
- Not placed in stopes as backfill.
(c) Not allowed to accumulate underground & must be pumped or drained away. Adequate precautions must be taken to remove noxious gases caused by pumping or draining.
A register of hazardous substances must be kept at the mine.

(a) D - Details of all hazardous substances which employees may be at risk.
R - Risk assessment for each hazardous substance.
M - MSDS.
D - Duties that may lead to exposure.

(b) What methods of noise reduction must be considered by the manager who the action level is exceeded, or is likely to be exceeded?
(c) What do the Regulations require with regard to personal hearing protection?
(a) Peak noise 140db, Noise exposure 85db.

- Reduce employee exposure time
(c) If any person receiving / likely to receive noise above action level;
- Provide personal hearing protection.
- Safety warning signs are displayed about wearing PHP.
The Regulations require that a change room is provided at each underground mine.
What must be included in a change room?
The change room must include:
- Seperate facilities and change areas for clean & dirty clothing.
- Adequate facilities to dry wet clothing.
- Facilities to clean off boots before entering change room.
The risk of exposure to hazardous substances must be prevented. If prevention is not practicable, this risk must be minimised.
List the measures which must be taken to minimise the risk of exposure to hazardous substances.
A responsible person must reduce the risk of exposure to hazardous substances by means of preventing exposure to the substance by:
- Limiting opportunity for potential exposure.
- Using appropriate ventilation and engineering controls.
- Adopting safe work practises.
- Correct PPE/C where practicable.

(b) Under what circumstances is another noise report required?
(a) The Mine Manager must cause a noise report to be prepared within 12 months of commencement of mining operations.
(b) Another noise report relating to the current noise situation is required if:
- An increase of 5db or more in the peak noise level or noise exposure received by a person already receiving noise above the action level.
- At any time after 5 years from the date of the last noise report a person receives noise above the action level.
- Required to do so by an inspector.
What do regulations require regarding:
(a) Containers for hazardous substance?
(b) Disposal of hazardous substance containers?
(c) Labels for hazardous substance containers?
(a) Any container used to hold a hazardous substance is manufactured from a suitable material & has a suitable design for the physical and chemical properties of the substance.
(b) - A safe means of disposal is provided for containers that are no longer needed or are emptied.
- A person who disposes of a container must ensure that the container is disposed of using the safe means of disposal provided.
(c) - Each hazardous substance container at the mine has an appropriate label.
- A person does not, without reasonable excuse; remove, deface, modify or alter the label on such a container.
What are the duties of each responsible person/manager with respect to:
(a) Sanitisation facilities?
(b) Toilet facilities?
(c) Accumulation of waste timber in an underground mine?
(a) Suitable sanitisation facilities are provided at the mine and are properly maintained.
(b) Appropriate toilet facilities are provided at a reasonable distance from each workplace at the mine.
(c) - No waste timber is allowed to accumulate underground and must be brought to the surface at regular intervals.
- Waste timber must not be placed into stopes as backfill.
