Relfex Arc And Neurons Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
What does each neurons cell body contain
A
Nucleus
2
Q
What does each neuron have
A
- cell body containing nucleus
- an axon and dendrites - run the length of neuron, how information carried across the body
3
Q
What’s at the end of an axon
A
Axon terminal - almost touches dendrite of next neuron (synapse)
4
Q
What’s the myelin sheath
A
- made of Schwann cells
- protects cell and helps increase speed of electrical information transmission along axon
5
Q
What’s at the end of a motor neurone
A
Effector (muscle or gland) which is activated by the motor neuron
6
Q
What is the process of a Reflex Arc
A
- Sensation detected by sensory receptors of sensory neurons
- Electrical signal travels along dendrite to axon terminal
- Converts to chemical signal and crosses synaptic cleft, detected by relay neuron in the spine
- Reflex response passed immediately to motor neuron and also from relay neuron to CNS for processing
- Signal travels along motor neuron to the effector which causes limb to move out of danger
