(13 cards)
Removing body scene- Jonathan- stretcher
Jonathan is rolled from the chaise to the floor, lying face down on the stretcher, which rips, leaving him centerstage with nowhere to go
Removing body scene- Jonathan- movement
Shuffles and wiggles his body along the floor; slow pace with high levels of tension, as he is still trying to portray Charles as dead
Removing body scene- Jonathan- study movement
Small gait as he comes into the study, continues to play dead charles
Removing body scene- Jonathan- study facial expression
Dennis brushes the body for fingerprints, which causes Jonathan discomfort, and he scrunches up his face to show this
Removing body scene- Jonathan- study hand gestures
Reaches into his pocket and hands them the letter
Removing body scene- Jonathan- study end scene
Dennis drops the powder on Jonathan’s face, who rolls off the study, and onto the lower level. He jumps up with an upright posture and stomps off the stage at a fast pace with a large gait
Removing body scene- Max- facial expressions
Max is relieved for not having to kiss Sandra, using his facial expressions to communicate this- blows out his cheeks, looks at the audience with his eyebrows raised and rolls his eyes
Removing body scene-Max- posture
Upright posture to hunched over to signal relief
Removing body scene- Max- kissing Sandra
Cecil must kiss Sandra as there is no more interruption- he shows this by moving his eyes right to left and moving at a very slow pace. This is effective as Cecil is supposed to be in love with Sandra, but Max shows his immaturity creating a sense of comedy here
Removing body scene- Jonathan- vocal skills
Vocal mannerism when coughing- dropping out of character as the powder is put on his face
Removing body scene- Max- vocal skills
Max shows he is uncomfortable with Sandra by delivering his lines in a high pitched, childish tone with fast pace; little emphasis on important words for this scene, such as love or relationship, reinforcing Max’s youth and inexperience
Removing body scene- lighting
When the designer wants the audience to focus on the upper level, Max and Sandra are in a tableau with a very a low intensity blue wash- symbolising being frozen. The study is then lit with an amber profile light. This switches depending on where the action is
Removing body scene- props
Props are not in the correct place and so the actors have to improvise by substituting for a different prop
