Replication_Lecture4 - Manel Camps Flashcards
(9 cards)
FtsZ
An important protein for cell division. Binds GTP, forms protofilaments, and interacts with other cell division proteins. Localizes at Z-Ring.
SulA
Inhibits FtsZ polymerization by finding to FtsZ monomers. Unregulated in response to DNA damage via the SOS response.
SOS Response Pathway
DNA Damage > RecA activity > Cleavage of LexA repressor > altered transcription (including SulA) due to derepression.
ZapA
Promotes Z-Ring assembly. Interacts with FtsZ and enhances polymerization and polymer stability. Inhibits GTPase activity.
MinC
Inhibitor of FtsZ localization. Activated by MinD binding.
MinD
Activator of MinC activity. Localizes to poles in ATP-bound form.
MinE
ATPase that pushes membrane/ATP bound MinD off membrane.
Nucleoid Occlusion (Noc)
DNA binding proteins that inhibit FtsZ ring formation.
SlmA
A nucleoid occlusion protein that inhibits FtsZ ring formation.
