Repro. & Estrus Flashcards
(14 cards)
vulva
external opening of repro tract
vagina
organ of copulation, urinary tract
cervix
uterine barrier
uterus
embryo/fetal development, gestation, prostaglandin
ovaries
oocyte production, progesterone, estrogen
oviduct
oocyte and sperm transport, site of fertilization
follicles
contain developing oocytes (eggs), produces estrogen
corpus luteum (means yellow body)
site where previous ovulation occurred, produces progesterone
Luteinizing Hormone (LH) (from anterior pituitary)
stimulates CL function and progesterone production, CAUSES OVULATION
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) (from anterior pituitary)
stimulates follicular development and estrogen production
Estrogen (E2) (from follicle)
feedback to the hypothalamus and pituitary
Progesterone (P4) (from CL)
negative feedback to the hypothalamus and maintenance of pregnancy. CL destroyed = no progesterone = must work on another follicle
Prostaglandin (F2 CL) (from uterus)
lysis (ruptures) the CL, uterine contractions
GnRH +
FSH that causes follicle to get bigger and bigger. LH causes follicle to rupture and lets hypothalamus know what is happening
