(11 cards)
What is the scrotum?
Pouch that contains the testicles and holds them away from the body.
Why must testicles be kept at a lower temperature?
To produce gametes, testicles must be kept at a temperature slightly lower than body temperature (~35°C).
What do testicles contain?
They contain the seminiferous tubules.
What do seminiferous tubules produce?
They produce an average of 400 million male gametes a day.
What is the epididymis?
A small elongated organ lying above the testicles that stores spermatozoa after production.
What happens to spermatozoa during ejaculation?
The spermatozoa enters the vas deferens.
What do the prostate and seminal vesicles produce?
They produce semen, the fluid that contains spermatozoa.
What is the function of semen?
Semen helps the spermatozoa move and is rich in sugar, providing energy for swimming after ejaculation.
What does Cowper’s gland do?
Releases a fluid into the urethra that neutralizes acidity from remaining traces of urine.
What is the urethra?
A tube through which semen flows during male ejaculation and carries urine from the bladder outside the body.
What is the penis?
