- Identify problems or issues worth exploring.
- Justify the need for research.
- Outlines the present situation or issues that need to be resolved and explains how the present research might provide solutions to or shed light on the problem.
What are the features of a good research question?
- Consistent with expected standards Able to produce clear conclusions
- At the right level ( not too difficult )
- Not too descriptive Use the ‘Goldilocks Test’ : too big, too small, too hot, just right
- Focused and Researchable
- Feasible and Specific
- Complex and Arguable
- Relevant
What are the 5 elements of a research problem?

● According to Bougie and Sekaran (2020), good research problem is relevant, feasible and interesting.
What are the criteria of a good research?
● Clearly defined: Problem statement ,research objectives and questions, research methodology clearly defined.
● Systematic: broken into clear steps and procedure is planned well.
● Ethical: All ethical aspects are considered and highly regarded.
● Significant: contributes to both academia and industry.
