Content analysis
-form of observation where human artefact is analysed e.g film/book
Process: - Deciding on sample from the large quantity of data
- Coding day using behavioural categories
- Tallying how often the behavioural categories occur
- then analyse findings
Thematic analysis
- qualitative analysis of day which is summarised to identify deeper themes
Process: - identify patterns in data - Cose the patterns
- Look for themes within the data
Natural vs quasi experiments
Natural- IV is naturally occurring in lab or environment
Quasi- IV naturally occurring but as existing differences between people e.g gender
Self report techniques
-Questionaaires
-Structured interviews
-Unstructured interviews
Measures of dispersion
-Describes the spread of data:
Range- difference between top and bottom values
Standard deviation- Avergae distance of each item from the mean
