respiratory and respiration system Flashcards
(7 cards)
what’s respiration
the process of realising energy from glucose
what are blood vessels
arteries, capillaries and veins and they carry blood around the body to the heart lungs and tissues
explain gas exchange
we breathe in oxygen which goes down the trachea, bronchi, bronchioles to the alveoli where there is a higher concentration of oxygen the CO2 therefore oxygen diffuses into the deoxygenated blood cell in the capillary which then become oxygenated. we then exhale CO2
how are the alveoli adapted for diffusion
large surface area
moist thin walls
many capillaries
what type of blood do arteries carry
oxygenated blood away from heart to tissues
what type of blood do veins carry
deoxygenated blood to the heart
what type of capillaries carry
both deoxy and oxy and exchange nutrients oxygen and waste with the tissues at the cellular level
