1. Make sure glasses and hearing aids are functioning, if used
2. Make sure call button is within reach and show how to use
3. Move telephone to tray so family can call
4. Provide meaningful visual and auditory stimuli, like a radio with favorite music; and family photos
5. Do best to anticipate basic needs; hungry, in pain, bathroom, etc
6. Encourage unfamiliar visitors and reduce stress
7. Diversions like puzzles; physical touch like massage
