RNA transcription Flashcards

1
Q

Function of sigma factor (RNA polymerase (RNAP) ) in RNA transcription

A

sigma factor helps guide RNA polymerase to specific DNA sequences, known as promoter regions, initiating the transcription process at the correct sites.

Q

Elongation process of RNA transcription

A

1) Once transcription initiation is complete, RNA polymerase moves along the DNA template strand in the 3’ to 5’ direction

2) New nucleotides are added to the growing mRNA one at time following the base pairing rule

3) As the RNA polymerase (RNAP) moves on the DNA template, DNA helix unwinds downstream and winds at the upstream ahead
