Definition
Steals and immediately before or at the time of, in order to do so, uses force or seeks to put someone in fear or force to steal

AR of theft + force to steal/put person in fear or force to steal
- Amount of force = jury discretion (Dawson + James)
- Need not be serious, words can suffice
- V need not be afraid (R + B v DPP)
- Can be against property or indirect (Clouden)
- Applied to any person, need not be person stealing from (Clouden)
- Threats as force = impossibility irrelevant (Bentham)
- Timing = immediately before or at time of, can be continuing act (Hale, Lockley)
- In order to steal = force must be used as a means of stealing

- Robbery complete when appropriation complete (Corcoran)
