1. equipment and media must be sterilised before use by appropriate methods
heat glassware , petroleum dishes and agar in stream and under pressure
heat inoculating loops in a bunsen flame
wash hands with antibacterial soap
sterilise work surfaces before and after
use bunsen to set up an air flow upwards to carry away bacteria
