What is categorisation?
two or more individuals who perceive themselves to be members of the same social category
what is communication?
two or more people who think of themselves as a group, are independent and communicate with each other
what is influence?
two or more persons who are interacting with one another in such a manner that the person influences and is influenced by each other person
what is shared identity?
two or mroe people processing a common social identification
what is interdependence?
a dynamic whole based on interdependence rather than similarity
what is shared tasks and goals?
three or more people who work together interdependently on an agreed upon activity or goal
when do groups come into existence?
when people are linked together by some type of relationship?
what is not a group?
ppl who work on same problem separately in diff rooms
share some superficial similarity - eye colour, birthplace, etc
need for meaningful social connection between group members
family as group - members connected by social and emotional relatinoships
what is a group?
a group is 2 or more individuals who are connected by and within social relationships
group size - range in size from 2 to many thousands
connection - members of a group are connected to each other like series of networked computers
social relationsihps - people in a group are linked by their membership
what are the main characteristics among groups?
interaction
goals
interdependence
structure
cohesiveness
