Medicare
Medicare is Australia’s universal health insurance scheme.
It is administered by the Federal Government and gives all Australians, permanent residents, and people from countries with reciprocal agreements access to healthcare that is subsidised by the government.
Services covered by medicare
- GP consultations
- x-rays
- Eye tests performed by optometrists
- Pathology, like blood and urine tests
- emergency public hospital treatment
- partial cover to some specialist treatments
- Some dental services for children aged 2-17

Provides extra financial assistance for those that incur significant out of pocket costs for Medicare services.

The private health insurance rebate is a government subsidy that helps reduce the cost of private health insurance premiums for eligible Australians, based on their age and income.
