SAR Flashcards
(101 cards)
What is datum?
Most probable location of a search object over a given period of time.
What forces affect datum?
Wind current
Tidal current
Other water current (lake, river, etc)
What is sweep width?
Swath centered on SRU track where there is equal probability they will detect an object as there is that they will miss an object.
What is track spacing?
Distance between adjacent search legs.
The more difficult an object is to detect, the smaller the ______?
Track spacing.
What is CSP?
Commence search point -location where SRU begins search.
What is a search leg?
Long leg along the track of search pattern.
What is a cross leg?
Connection of two search legs.
What is creep?
General direction that the SRU moves through search area.
Square pattern is used when?
To search a small area when there is doubt about distress position.
Notes: more uniform coverage than a sector search (VS)
Square patterns turns are all?
90 degrees to the right.
Sector (V) pattern turns are?
120 degrees to the right.
Parallel patterns are used for?
Large search areas where only approximate initial position is known and uniform coverage desired.
Creeping line patterns are used for?
Covering one end of search area first.
Can also be used to change direction of search legs to mitigate sun glare or sea state.
Trackline pattern used when?
Intended route of search object is known.
Barrier pattern used when?
Areas with strong currents.
PEACE does what?
Identifies hazards
STAAR does what?
Identifies options
What are the letters of PEACE acronym?
Planning
EVENT
Asset
Communication
ENVIRONMENT
Coverage factor equation?
Sweep width(W) / Track Spacing (S)
Meteor flare height?
250-400 FT
Parachute flare height?
1000-1200 FT
If angle of elevation is more than 8 degrees for flare, then distance of flare from reporting source is?
1.4 NM
Range of 87 WPB?
875 NM
