Sarcomeres Flashcards

1
Q

What is the order surrounding the muscle fibre

A
  • Endomesium separates muscle fibres
  • perimysium lies between fasiculi
  • epimysium is the dense sheath on the surface

Q

features of myosin (make up thick filament)

A

tail consists of two intertwined heavy chains
two globular heads extend out, forming cross bridges
globular heads contain heavy and light chains
globular heads also contain binding sites for actin (thin filaments) and ATP (myosin-ATPase)

7
Q

tropomyosin

A

regulatory protein

overlaps binding sites om actin for myosin and inhibits interaction when in relaxed state

8
Q

what is the role of troponin

A

regulatory protein
forms a complex with actin and tropomyosin, it binds ca2+ reversibly and this changes the conformation to pull tropomyosin away from the myosin interaction sites therefore regulating skeletal muscle contraction

Q

outer edge of a-band contains what

A

thick and thin filaments which overlap

17
Q

Where is ca2+ stored

A

sarcoplasmic reticulum and Is released following membrane excitation

18
Q

what are the two proteins involved in junctions between the SR and t-tubules

A

t-tubule membrane and the membrane of the SR

19
Q

what is a t-tubule

A

modified voltage gated ca2+ channel known as DHPR and acts as a voltage sensor

20

where are ryanaidine receptors located

A

embedded int he SR membrane and forms a ca2+ channel
