What is sz?

A

when an individual experiences non existent stimuli that causes perceptions of things that don’t exist - split from reality

  • affects 1 in 100 people
  • 70% hear voices
  • 25% have 1 episode and then recover
  • 25% have it continually
  • 50% have periods of recovery and periods of symptoms

What are positive symptoms?

A

addition to behaviour
- e.g hallucination, hearing voices, delusions, thought insertion
- can be treated
- difficult to measure

A

take away from normal functioning
- e.g lack of self care, flatness of emotion, social withdrawal
- difficult to treat
- can be objectively measured - questionnaire
