(10 cards)
What is a reference point?
A place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion.
What does Newton’s 1st law of motion state?
A moving object moves in a straight line with constant speed unless a force acts on it. Objects do not change their motion unless a force acts on them.
What is the relationship between acceleration and force?
Acceleration is directly related to the size of the force and the direction of the force.
What does F=ma represent?
It represents the formula where force equals mass times acceleration.
What does Newton’s 3rd law of motion state?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
What is the law of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created nor destroyed.
What is sliding friction?
Friction that occurs when two solid objects slide across each other.
What is rolling friction?
Friction that occurs when one object rolls across another object.
What is fluid friction?
Friction that occurs when a solid object moves through a fluid such as air or water.
What is static friction?
Friction between two objects that are not moving.
