Science: Prokaryotic vs eukaryotic cells Flashcards
(6 cards)
Why are cells the basic unit of structure and function in all living things?
Cells are the basic units of structure in living things because the cells form the parts of the organism, and carry out all of the organism’s functions.
What is a prokaryotic cell?
They have no nucleus, they have circular DNA and always have a cell wall.
What is a eukaryotic cell?
They have a nucleus, they have membrane bound organelles, and they sometimes have a cell wall.
What differences do eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells have?
Prokaryotic cells are unicellular organisms without a nucleus, and eukaryotic cells are organisms with a nucleus.
What similarities do eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells have?
They are both cells, they both have DNA, they both have a cell membrane, and they both have ribosomes.
What is an example of each type of cell? (Prokaryotic and eukaryotic.)
An example of a eukaryotic cell is a skin cell of a human, whereas an example of a prokaryotic cell is archaebacteria.
