Science Week 3 Flashcards

1
Q

Ionic Compounds

A
  • made up of positive ions/negative ions in a specific ratio
  • electrons lost must equal the electrons gained
  • molecule must be neutral and stable
  • electrostatic charge keeps the ions together

Q

Naming Ionic Compounds

A

Positive Ion Name (Roman Numeral for those with multiple valency)—>

  1. Negative Ion name —> polyatomic ions
  2. Non-metal —> modified to end with -ide

IDE ——> original element (sulfur)
ATE/ITE ——> modified element (sulfate, sulfite)
