Scientific method & Cells Flashcards
(13 cards)
What are the steps of the scientific method?
- ask a question
- make an observation
- hypothesis
- preform an experiment
- analyze the results
- form a conclusion(valid or non valid)
What is the difference between a theory and law?
A theory is an argument, while a law is a fact/non argumentative.
What is the traditional cell theory?
- cells come from other cells
- all organisms are made of cells
- cells are the basic unit of life
who was the first to discover cells?
Robert Hooke(cork/dead tree)
What did Anton Van Leeuwenhoek do?
handmade microscope to look at pond water
What is spontaneous generation?
Fake news (once said mice come from corn husks) It states living things come from nonliving things.
What did Louis Pasteur do?
Proved spontaneous generation wrong and discovered living things come from living things.
What did Schleiden and Shwann do?
- Schleiden(1838) plants
- Schwann(1839)animal tissue is made of cells
- Rudolf Virchow(1858)how cells make more cells
What is part of the modern cell theory?
Cells functions and structures are necessary for life
Updated discoveries in cell theory?
- energy flows in cells
- similar species have similar compositions
- cells contain DNA
What organelles are specific to plants?
cell wall, chloroplast, chlorophyll, large vacuole
What organelles are specific to animals?
cilia, flagella, lysosomes, centriole, small/may vacuoles
what are the levels of organ ization?
1.atoms
2. compounds
3.organelles
4.cells
5. tissues
6. organs
7. organ system
8. organism
