There became such HASTE for europeans to claim african land that it was called that

A
Europe was fine with not trading internally with africa so they kept trade on the coast this changed when Trade in the West moved inland likely due to advances in railways and/or river steamships

A
Belgium and germany showed immense intrest in the land and britain and france felt left behind, in order to catch up they made haste to claim african land

A
Congo. King Leopold claimed it as his personal land.
