Early problems they faced
Blamed for losing WWI & signing Treaty of Versailles that basically doomed Germany
Hyperinflation & economic collapse
Political violence (left- and right-wing uprisings)
Why was it considered a weak new goverment
No strong support from army or elites, People hated democracy and Numerous extremist uprisings
How did it survive for so long
Stresemann fixed economy, Better foreign relations, Culture boom
How did it pave the way for Hitler
When it fell during the great depression, hitler saw an opportunity to give german citizens a way out by putting him into office
Did Weimar fall under left wing or right wing
Left wing, they were communist
Left and right wing differences.
Left wing was the communists and socialists that believed in equality and wanted change.
The right wing were the Nazis and Fascists that believed in Nationalism, and tradition – in other words keeping things the same – no big changes – supporting private property
Why did people favour the right wing?
It allowed the rich to stay rich and people with many assets to not have to share them. It kept things the way they were, the German way – no change
What was the Munich Putsch and what were the reprocussions of it
Hitler’s failed attempt to overthrow the goverment. He was jailed and in prison wrote his book (Mein Kampf) He learnt his lesson and chose to gain power legally
