What are the signs of skin cancer
(1) an open sore that does not heal for 3 weeks; (2) a spot or sore that burns, itches, stings, crusts, or bleeds; and (3) any mole or spot that changes in size or texture, develops irregular borders, or appears pearly, translucent, or multicolored.
Name two non malignant cancers?
1). Basal Cell carcinoma-normal flesh-colored lesion to a slightly pigmented lesion. These are characterized by a raised, shiny appearance, often with pearly borders. May be on nose, ears…
2). Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) lesion is a roughened, scaling area that does not heal and readily bleeds when scraped.
-Keratinization of these can lead to a heaped-up appearance that flakes.
-Growth is slow.
What are malignant melanomas?
MM is characterized by a lesion that is best described by the ABCDEs of MM. 1). These include asymmetry (of the entire lesion), border (irregularities) 2). color (variability within the lesion from a brown to black discoloration), 3). diameter (>6 mm [¼ inch]), and elevation (recently raised) 4). Bleeding or oozing, 5). Itching or painful.
