seasonal and high altitude training Flashcards
(7 cards)
oxygen at high altitudes
there are fewer air molecules at altitude meaning there is less oxygen to transfer from the lungs into the bloodstream meaning we can’t carry as much oxygen to the working muscles in other words the bodys oxygen carrying capacity is reduced at high altitudes.
over time the body compensates for this by making more red blood cells to carry oxygen
how many metres above sea level it considered to be high altitude
2000 metres
what happens when an athlete first begins altitude training
their performance will decreaseW
when will the athletes body adapt
after a weeks of of training at high altitude
what will happen to their body once the athlete has adapted
increasing red blood cells
increasing haemoglobin
what will happen to the athletes body after they have completed high altitude training and gone back down to sea level
there oxygen carrying capacity will have increased
