Training Flashcards
(24 cards)
what is circuit training
circuit training is a number of different activities that can be selected to suit the individual or activity requirements
what is continuous training
continuous training is sustained exercise at a constant rate that must be 20 minutes or longer with no breaks or rests
is continuous training aerobic or anaerobic
continuous training is aerobic and is therefore used for aerobic endurance based exercise
what are some benefits of continuous training
improves cardiovascular and muscular endurance
what is fartlek training
fartlek training is a type of continuous training. It involves continuous exercise however its across variations of speed, terrain covered and work - to - rest ratios
What are benefits of fartlek training
-change of speed allows recovery so that the performer can preform to their maximum
-improves cardiovascular and muscular endurance which reduces the chances of getting coronary heart disease
-changes in pace makes it so the performer can perform aerobically and anaerobically
What are benefits of circuit training
-weightloss if overweight through burning calories
-used to develop all components of fitness
-can be anaerobic or aerobic
what sport do people use with continuous training
Marathon runner - run at a steady pace around a 400 m track for 20 minds
what sport do people use with fartlek training
netball - similar to the game play sprinting and recovery. sprinting from end of the court to the other and then stopping whilst the shooter is shooting
what is interval training
Interval training has periods of intense activity, with breaks within the session to allow recovery
what are the benefits of interval training
-weightloss due to burning calories
-can adapted to improve your health in many different ways
is interval training aerobic or anaerobic
usually associated with anaerobic
what sport do people use interval training for
sprinting, sprint swimmers
what is static stretching
static stretching is stretching as far as you can and then holding it for up to 30 seconds
benefits of static stretching
-increases flexibility
-used when a range of movement around a joint is needed to be increased
what sports do people use static stretching for
hurdlers reaching their leg over the hurdle while lifting their trailing leg to avoid knocking over the hurdle
what is weight training
weight training is a form of interval training which involves reps and sets whilst the weight provides a resistance for the muscle to work against
what are the benefits of weight training
-develops fitness for most activities such as power and strength
how to develop power and strength
high weight X low number of reps
how to develop muscular endurance
low weight X high number of reps
what is plyometric training
a type of exercise that involves explosive movement to develop powerw
what are the benefits of plyometric training
-develops power by quickly lengthening and shortening muscles
-used to train for activities with fast explosive movements
what sports do you use plyometric training in
basketball when jumping to get the ball. do box jumps
