Section 2.5 Flashcards
The cell cycle (10 cards)
What are the three stages of the cell cycle?
Interphase, mitosis, and cytokinesis
How long is the cell cycle?
30 hours
What occurs during interphase?
The cell performs its normal functions while copying genetic material (DNA)
What occurs during mitosis?
The DNA is divided
What are the 4 phases of mitosis in order?
Prophase, Metaphase, anaphase, telophase
What occurs in prophase?
Chromosomes become visible and the nucleus begins to dissolve
What occurs during metaphase?
Chromosomes begin to line up in the middle of the cell
What occurs during anaphase?
The centromere splits and sister chromatids separate into daughter chromosomes and move to opposite ends of the cell
What occurs during telophase?
The chromatids unwind and a nuclear membrane reforms around the chromosomes at each end of the cell
What is cytokinesis
The phase when the cytoplasm divides to form 2 identical cells.
