- interview schedule - list of questions interview covers from pps to reduce interviewer bias
- interviewer takes notes throughout the interview or interview is recorded & analysed later
- interviews should take place in a quiet room to increase the likelihood that the interviewee will respond truthfully
- neutral questions should be started off with to make the interviewee comfortable
- they should be reminded constantly that their answers are confidential - especially if topics of discussion or private or sensitive
What are features that should be avoided when writing good questions?
- overuse of jargon
- emotive language & leading questions
- double-barrelled qs & double negatives
What is overuse of jargon?
jargon means terms that are only familiar to those within a specialised field
Why should emotive language & leading questions be avoided?
- emotive language shows the author’s attitude towards a particular topic which could influence how the respondent chooses to answer
- leading questions guides the respondent towards a particular answer
What are double-barrelled questions & double negatives?
- a double-barrelled question contains 2 questions in one
- this is an issue as the respondent may agree with the 1st half but not the other
- double negatives can be difficult for respondents to understand
