questionnaires description
•written survey that measures opinion on something
Questionnaire types
•open questions-no predetermined responses, people who respond can offer as much detail as they feel is needed ,gather QUALITATIVE data ( descriptive info ) generate greater depth which can be hard to analyse and time consuming
•closed questions-predetermined responses to choose from, gather QUANTITATIVE data (numbers and data) quick and easy to answer and analyse but lack of depth
•AVOID- ambiguous (unclear questions ) leading questions and double barrel questions
Questionare evaluation
•gathering info for questionnaire can be time consuming and not everyone may return it
•pps may want to appear more socially desirable and may lie to do this leading to data not being as reliable
•can be completed confidentially
Interviews description
•Questions asked verbally by interviewer and answered by person being interviewed usually open questions QUALITATIVE
•types of interview
• semi structured- some set questions but areas of interest can be talked about if not set
• structured- all people being interviewed asked same questions no extra info talked about
•unstructured -interviewer prepared one or two questions but mainly interview snowballs naturally
Interviews evaluation
•qualitative data can be rich is detail but hard to analyse
• pps may want to seen socially desirable so may lie so results may not be fully reliable
•can repeat questions or ask for help so better than questionnaires were you can’t and it’s just on paper
•interviewers can tell a lot by body language
