Seperating Mixtures Flashcards
(10 cards)
How does filtering work ?
Filtration is a method for separating an insoluble solid from a liquid. When a mixture of sand and water is filtered the sand stays behind in the filter paper ,it becomes the residue, the water passes through the filter paper.
What is a mixture ?
a substance made by mixing other substances together.
What is a solute ?
the substance dissolved in a given solution.
What is a solution ?
the process by which a gas, liquid, or solid is dispersed without chemical change.
What is a solvent ?
a substance that dissolves another to form a solution: Water is a solvent for sugar.
What is solubility ?
the quality or property of being soluble; relative capability of being dissolved.
What is saturation ?
containing the maximum amount of solute capable of being dissolved under given conditions.
How do you carry out chromatography ?
To carry out chromatography you can put ink on a chromatography paper and put half of it in water and watch the ink rise a see the colours come out.
How is filtration useful ?
Filtration is useful so then we can make substances around the world cleaner and get a certain pieces out of the liquid substance
Where is chromatography useful ?
Chromatography is useful in crime and investigation . Chromatography is a great physical method for observing mixtures and solvents.
