Teens!
Hear them: the more we listen, the more they will talk. Teach them to listen to others. Teach them to hear God’s voice.
See them: observation goes both ways. Don’t put them in leadership too soon.
Know them: celebrate them. Show up and cheer. Celebrate them. Know the parents too.
Love them: love is an action word. See God-like love in others.
Pray for them: constantly, purposefully, specifically.
Feed them: take them deeper. Look for teachable God moments.
Make it more than a Sunday school lesson// journaling, drawing, active prayer stations, get messy!
Types of disabilities
ADHD//trouble paying attention, overly active, unable to control impulsive behavior.
ASD (autism spectrum disorder)//impaired social interactions, difficulty with scenario processing.
Learning disability//affects the ability to understand or use spoken or written language, do mathematical calculations, coordinate movement, or direct attention.
Intellectual disability//trouble with conceptual, social, and practical skills.
What can we do when children suffer from disabilities?

Informal or implicit//the unplanned content that occurs in a teaching situation

What is the value in using published curriculum?
Developmental//Writers are experts in the characteristics and age groups they are writing for.
Educational methodology//published curriculum has the ability to remain current. Published curriculum provides variety of resources.
Long range lesson planning//planning ahead what will be taught next week or month or year, takes the guess work out of what previous teacher has used and allows a formal way of progressing through the Bible.
Why use published curriculum?
Good curriculum are an aid to creative Bible teaching.
The teacher can draw on and adapt resources that most lay people do not have access to.
Curriculum can serve to enhance the teaching of the Bible.

What are three languages teachers should use
Reinforcing language//notice what children are doing right, use warm and professional tone, find positives to name in all the students
Reminding language//establish expectations clearly, use a direct tone and neutral body language, keep reminders brief
Redirecting language//be direct and specific, name desired behavior, keep it brief, state redirections as statements not questions
