Sheep Brain and Spinal Cord Dissection Ear Model Flashcards
(26 cards)
Three protective layers of connective tissue of meninges:
Dura, Arachnoid, and Pia Matte
Dura mater
Outermost layer of dense
CT, continuous in brain and spinal cord
Arachnoid Mater
Middle web-like layer,
deep to Dura mater, more delicate.
Projections form columns that join Pia
Mater.
Subarachnoid space
CSF, larger blood
vessels
Pia mater
Thin layer, delicate, highly
vascular. Intimately joined to arachnoid
layer. Follows external contour of
brain/spinal cord

Hypoglossal innervation
Styloglossus, hyoglossus, genioglossus, and intrinsic muscles of the tongue
Spinal accessory innervation
cleidomastoid, sternomastoid, trapezius muscles,
Vagus function
pharynx, larynx,, esophagus, lungs, heart, abdominal viscera
Glossopharyngeal function
pharyngeal muscles, sensory innervation of pharynx, teaspoons of a cereal, 1/3 of tongue, parotid gland
Vestibulocochlear function
Vestibular branch works with organs of equilibrium, saccule, in utricle, semi circular canals
cochlear branch innervates the organs, organs of corti, in cochlea
Abducens function
Lateral rectus
facial function
Facial and gastric muscles, taste buds, of anterior 2/3 of tongue, mandibular, sublingual, lacrimal glands
Trigeminal Function
Ophthalmic branch works with the skin and region of eye and nose, upper eyelid, eyeball, lacrimal glands
Maxillary branch works with palate, upper lip, upper teeth, vibrissae, skin of upper jaw and vicinity
Mandibular branch works with lower lip, lower teeth, PINNA, skin of lower jaw and cheek, masseter, temporal, PTERYGOID muscles
Trochlear function
Works with dorsal oblique muscle
